The
Lake
USA 1998. Director: David Jackson
Cast: Yasmine Bleeth, Linden Ashby, Haley Joel Osment
When Jackie returns to her hometown she
discovers weird things going on. Everyone is so different from what
she remembers, including her dad. It turns out there is a lake just
outside town which functions as a doorway to another parallel and
identical and evil world. This other world is now so polluted that
no one can live there anymore, so now the people, our duplicates,
from downunder are coming up to replace us and take over our world
as we know it and hopefully before we know it. Slick direction and
a fairly cool plot (Invasion of the Body Snatchers style) makes
this TV-chiller enjoyable and reasonably suspenseful despite some
mediocre digital effects and a Yasmine Bleeth who is so peppy, if
likable, that it's a mystery in itself why she keeps getting casted
in these films. She does a great job wrestling herself, though. And
that kid from The Sixth Sense... still scary.
