Hit Squad
Italy 1976. Director: Bruno Corbucci
Cast: Tomas Milian, Robert Webber, Lilli Carati, Olimpia di Nardo
Aka: Squadra Antifurto

It's understandable if many find this sequel to A Cop in Blue Jeans more enjoyable. It's designed to be and it works better for it. The premise is more clearly presented, the supporting characters are better defined and the comedy is more upfront, more relaxed. If the original film felt almost like a pilot, then this sequel plays like the first episode of what turned out to be a long and successful series of movies, with eleven ones made between 1976 and 1984.

The plot is almost identical to the previous film. Nico Giraldi, still with his Serpico posters on his appartment walls, is heading a special squad. First he takes care of Lilli Carati and her stolen green car then he takes care of a sleazy guy who makes dirty phone-calls to her. A couple of burglars then manage to steal a valuable briefcase full of top-secret documents from crooked CIA-agent Robert Webber. When the burglars discovers what they got they try to blackmail Webber, but Webber won't take that. He begins to track down the burglars one by one and have them killed. Giraldi and his squad follows the dead bodies but fail to nail Webber before he escapes back home to America. So Giraldi decides to follow him to New York for a final and hilarious confrontation.

All in all, Hit Squad benefits greatly from its bigger budget compared to the original's micro ditto and Giraldi's choice of clothing remains outrageous throughout the whole film. It's simply great entertainment with several fantastic stunts and fights and Milian seem to have the joy of his life. Swindle was up next.
