Final Destination
2
USA
2003. Director: David R. Ellis
Cast: Ali Larter, A.J Cook, Michael Landes, Tony Todd
Not necessarily better but near-equal and bloodier
sequel to the original Final
Destination. Basically it has the same plot. A group of people
just about survives a big freeway accident because one girl dreamt about
it. They've cheated Death, so now Death is about to get them all, better
late than never. It must be said, though, that the film doesn't cheat
in the splatter department. The creative deaths are upfront and gory.
A guy is mashed to a wet spot by a falling log, another guy is cut in
stripes by a flying barbed-wire fence. Almost like in the old days.
If the film had some more colorful actors it could have been something,
but most of these people are just bodies led to slaughter. Ali Larter
returns as the sole survivor from the first film (locked up at the asylum)
but she hasn't enough spark to make any difference. It's still a worthy
sequel with good production value and if you want old-fashioned gore-effects
alone, Final Destination 2 delivers more than expected.
