The Dark
UK/Germany 2005. Director: John Fawcett
Cast: Sean Bean, Maria Bello, Richard Elfyn, Maurice Roëves

Maria Bello and her daughter visits her ex-husband in Wales. The daughter disappears, seemingly drowned, and is somehow replaced by a girl who died fifty years ago. Rarely do one see a movie that tries so hard to be genuinely scary but that just ends up being genuinely unscary. Maria Bello is definitely not the right actress to play this type of emotional mother-in-distress stuff (Julianne Moore-stuff) and the story never engages. Despite gorgeous Walesian surroundings, great cinematography and good intentions, this is boring and mostly a waste of time.
