The Bone Snatcher
Canada/UK/South Africa 2003. Director: Jason Wulfson
Cast: Scott Bairstow, Rachel Shelley, Warrick Grier, Patrick Shai
Aka: Sandmother

Four dead bodies are found horribly mutilated in the Namib desert. A team of investigating scientists and lawmen are stuck at the place of discovery, surrounded and attacked by monsters snuffing them all one by one, snatching their bones. Despite a thin and predictable plot, a shitty looking creature (a collection of zillion of ants, don't ask) and an unnecessary use of crappy slow-motion effects, this cheap little low-budgeter works very well nevertheless. The dry South African setting is refreshing and atmospheric, the cinematography is beautiful and beguiling and the set-up is like The Thing in the desert (never wrong). Check this sandmother out. I liked it.
Or perhaps I just like sand.
