Dirty Deal
Italy
1976. Director: Fernando Di Leo
Cast: Luc Merenda, James Mason, Valentina Cortese, Irina Maleeva
Aka: La Cittą Sconvolta-Caccia Spietata ai Traditori
Luc Merenda and James Mason have their sons
kidnapped by a syndicate of thugs. Only Mason is a wealthy businessman
who really don't want to pay ("It's a deal like any other and I'm not
about to pay any 15 million dollar") while Merenda has nothing. So when
the kidnappers kills Merenda's son to prove they're serious, Merenda
jumps on his motorcycle and goes after the killers. First by infiltrating
their organisation, then by killing them all violently.
One of the lesser and more melodramatic
efforts by Italian crime master Fernando Di Leo, who just recently passed away.
It's not as hardboiled as, say, The
Boss, nor is it as entertaining or violent. Though there's some cool motorcycle
chases in the last half-hour and Di Leo keep up his tradition of having very few sympathetic
characters. And the police detectives have matching ties (dotted).
