Mindripper
USA
1994. Director: Joe Gayton
Cast: Natasha Gregson, Giovanni Ribisi, Lance Henrikson, John Diehl
Aka: The Outpost

Shot in Bulgaria, this was long intended as
The Hills Have Eyes 3. But wisely enough executive producer Wes
Craven and original producer Peter Locke came to their senses and changed
their minds. On its own, Mindripper is a decent little horror
film about the usual scientific experiments with a superhuman gone wrong.
The superhuman monster goes berserk and kills various people. All
around Mindripper is a little too predictable to be scary, we've
seen this story many times before, with zombies, mutants, aliens or
whatever. It's not a waste of time, though. Starving fans of splatter
could do a lot worse.
Good things includes atmospheric underground setting, a truckload of
gory effects by Bob Keen and solid acting by Natasha Gregson, John Diehl
and Giovanni Ribisi. Though it's hard to see the point in hiring Lance
Henriksen here, as he only sets the plot going and then lies unconscious
in the monster's cave, and when he finally wakes up it's time to escape
in the helicopter while the filmmakers set up the premise for a sequel
nobody wants.
