Fashion Murders
Italy 1989. Director: Joe Brenner (Bruno Gaburro)
Cast: Anthony Franciosa, Teresa Leopardi, Miles O'Keefe
Aka: La Morte e'di Moda

Anthony Franciosa (Tenebre) is a police detective set on a case - of which he has very little interest at first - regarding a fashion model, Teresa Leopardi, who has witnessed a murder. The only problem is that the murder took place twenty years ago but she witnessed it today. Fishy stuff says Franciosa and goes on a fishing trip instead while Teresa is left chased by a killer dressed in black.

Fashion Murders is nice little thriller that don't seem to get on too well with fans of the genre. Director Bruno Gaburro (or "Joe Brenner", depending on the print you are watching) usually specializes in sex comedies such as Maladonna and the cult-movie Black & White Emanuelle, and he more or less goes the same route here. In other words, more beautiful women than wicked thrills and graphic violence. Nevertheless the film has some sparse style on its own, although it's undeniably more television than Mario Bava. Stylished photographed, but not overly colorful. Examplary work, though, by young cinematographer Sergio Rubini, who later went on to direct more critically acclaimed mainstream movies such as The Station in which he also played the lead. Fashion Murders is recommended to the open-minded fan of gialli, because while it may not be particularly thrilling or engaging, it's always nice to look at. And if nothing else, you'll get some real nice fishing advices from expert Franciosa.
