Hallucination Strip
Italy 197?. Director: Lucio Marcaccini
Cast: Bud Cort, Eva Cemerys, Umberto Raho, Patrizia Gori
Aka: Roma Drogata La Polizia Non Puo Intervenire

Despite the original title this is not really a police film. To be totally honest I don't know how to describe it best. Except that it probably is the result of someone smoking something bad. It mainly concerns a hippie (Bud Cort) who together with his girlfriend (Eva Cemerys) eats a lot of pills and steals a valuable pill-box during a burglary. A dedicated cop is set on the case and before you know it lots of bodies are turning up in closets.

Somewhere in the middle of the film there is a long LSD sequence that justifies the English title. Edited together by Giulio Gerruti, also the director of Killer Nun, this awesome and arty collage of surreal images includes a naked man lying on the beach, painted people trying to break out of plastic bags, lots of group sex in public and a brief glimpse of a man turning into a plant. Needless to say the man who has the hallucination jumps out of a window. The rest of the film is filled with intolerable (and dated) rock music and political speeches. The opening credit sequence features a bearded rock band intercut with scenes from the film. As for the genius responsible, Lucio Marcaccini, I haven't found any other credit of any kind. I'm not surprised. Watch at your own risk. Or cut out the LSD sequence and throw away the rest.
