Frigid Fantasies
Spain 1981. Director: Carlos Aured
Cast: Andrea Guzon, Alfredo Calles, Sara Mora
Aka: La Frígida y la Viciosa

A triangle-drama which tells the story of Paula, a frustrated housewife (played by Andrea Guzon who slightly recembles a young Pia Zadora) who just can't relax during sex. As if that wasn't enough her husband Fernando (Alfredo Calles) is cheating on her. He tries to help Paula with her problem but seem more interested in having real sex with his secretary. When out for a walk one day Paula meets a young female photographer (Eva Mora) whom she befriends. They decides that the photographer shall become Fernando's new mistress and together they shall trie to learn Paula the art of sex. They try it all, bondage, sado-masochism, whatever and at one point they're even staging a fake burglary where poor Paula is tied to a chair and seduced by two masked thiefs in fancy suits. Another scene has Paula tied onto a billiard table and I know you can imagine the rest.

Dangerously close to an X-rating this is obviously awfully cheap in every way possible. The story is only an excuse for director Aured to set up one weird and kinky set-piece after another. Nontheless one reaches for the fast-forward button almost from the beginning. It's quite hard to believe that Aured once helmed the Paul Naschy classics Horror Rises From the Tomb, Blue Eyes of the Broken Doll, The Mummy's Revenge and Curse of the Devil. Although they're no masterpieces either, they're miles ahead of this tedious and unexciting melodrama.

Courtesy of CAM (who also scored J.P Simon's Pieces and Paul Naschy's A Dragonfly for Each Corpse) there is an aptly sleazy hammond organ-score which makes one feel sea-sick. Blueeyed beauty Andrea Guzon is, though, cute and sympathetic in the lead but she isn't enough actress to carry a whole film by herself. She can be seen in much better light in Joe D'Amato's softie The Pleasure (using her full name Isabella Andrea Guzon) while dark haired Sara Mora shined in Antonio D'Agostini's transexual epos Eva Man and had a smaller role in Naschy's The Beast and the Magic Sword. The third participant here, Alfred Calles, is probably making a living as an Elvis impersonator.
