The
Hot Life of Al Capone
Italy
1995. Director: Richard Bennet (Joe D'Amato)
Cast: Simona Valli, Deborah Wells, Robert Malone Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the darkest corner of the video store, Joe D'Amato (covering his pride with yet another alias) strikes again and offers his very own version of The Untouchables. The film opens with Al Capone challenging a rival in what he calls "The Sicilian Duel", a duel between "two men with balls". Now, if this was an ordinary film it would have sounded normal (almost), but, keep in mind, this is another kind of flick so I don't think I need to explain what follows. The main plot (there really is one) basically concerns Elliott Ness and his attempts to bust Capone, "the terror of Chicago". To do so he sends his best agents, two female hotcakes ("Capone is a man, isn't he?") to infiltrate Capone's organization. The film is shot on real 35mm film and has many "real" actors in supporting parts and plenty of extras. As far as leading actors go we have some of the most famous porn stars in Europe, such as Deborah Wells and Simona Walli, who only do what they are hired to do. And that is not acting. The only exception is Robert Malone, a David Hess impersonator who is perfect as the big mafia boss. To set the mood further the film has a really annoying fun-jazz theme song that is endlessly repeated on the soundtrack. The first time one hears it one claps along, but by the end of the film it makes you sick. Make no mistake about it. The Hot Life of Al Capone is a porno film from beginning to end. But it's a well made one at that and it works as a silly comedy if one is in a forgiving mood. An especially forgiving mood. The most peculiar thing occurs during the end of the end credits, though. Actor Jonathan Fuller (Castle Freak etc) as production assistant?
